In my previous post on Pluto in Capricorn I pointed out another NYT story about more Ponzi schemes being uncovered and this reflects the synchronicity of planetary cycles, specifically illustrated by Pluto in Capricorn. Pluto entered Capricorn in late 2008 for the first time in 248 years. Pluto’s function is to transform and it operates through the archetypal cycle of death and rebirth, much like a surgeon who must first harm the body by cutting it open in order to ultimately heal it. Capricorn represents resources, both natural and financial.
Whenever we hear of “secrets spilling into the open” we know Pluto is around. Secrets, lies, coverups, and intrigue are the toxic mimics of candor, truth, revelation and trust; and it’s Pluto job as alchemist to turn the former into the latter. Astrology is useful because each of the planets can act as an alchemist, turning the lead (the dead weight we carry around with us) into gold (that which is valuable). Understanding what’s going to be transformed, and when, may help to reduce the stress involved (“Oh, you’re brandishing a scalpel because you’re taking out my appendix, not mugging me. Okay, go ahead!”)
Interestingly, when we look at the chart for the United States (Sibley chart) we can see Venus at 3 degrees of Cancer. As of this writing transiting Pluto is approaching 3 degrees of Capricorn. This opposition between cathartic transformation (Pluto) and values/money (Venus) is an apt description of what we see being played out in the financial markets in the US and abroad.
Pluto will remain in Capricorn until 2023, excavating and transforming our management of natural and financial resources so that we see them as something valuable, not something to be abused, plundered, or hidden. Keep your eye on this story because I’m sure there will be more to come.
