States’ Rights Is Rallying Cry for Lawmakers – NYTimes.com.
“Whether it’s correctly called a movement, a backlash or political theater, state declarations of their rights — or in some cases denunciations of federal authority, amounting to the same thing — are on a roll.”
The Great Experiment, aka the democracy of the United States, is once again in flux. Pluto is the planet of transformation, evolution, regeneration. Pluto is now moving through Capricorn, the sign that represents government, and the sign Pluto was moving through in 1776 as seen the in the chart for the United States. Over the next fourteen years while Pluto makes its way through Capricorn we can expect to see major shifts, corrections, and re-calibrations of our political systems and how we choose to govern ourselves.
Pluto is in the early degrees of Capricorn (5 degrees of this writing) and that’s where it was in 1764. There was a lot happening in this country back then. The Sugar Act was passed, which was the basis for the colonists outrage over “no taxation without representation” (along with the Boston Tea Party in 1763). The War of Regulation (1764-1771) was happening in North Carolina where citizens took up arms against corrupt colonial officials. The French and Indian War had just ended and helped to bring the states into a closer coalition with one another.
It will be interesting to see how our country both faces and accommodates the changing political, social, and cultural landscape we find ourselves in. Pluto is also about power, and with Pluto at 27 degrees Capricorn in the chart for the United States, we have six or seven more years until it’s within ten degrees of its natal position in the US chart. From 2017 through the late 2020′s we may find ourselves again grappling with how to distribute the balance of power between the federal and state governments, how the constitution empowers (or disempowers) the people it governs, and how we as citizens hold those in power accountable for their responsible management of our democratic resources. Stay tuned!
