The November New Moon in Scorpio: How Much Do You Really Trust Yourself?

The November New Moon in Scorpio: How Much Do You Really Trust Yourself?
“As soon as you trust yourself, you will know how to live.” -Johann Wolfgang von Goethe
I’ve had a life-long interest in astrology, but growing up in a conservative household it wasn’t something I was even allowed to explore. It wasn’t until I was in my early 30s that I earnestly began to study astrology and it wasn’t until 2006 that I realized it was somethign that I could actually do professionally. It took me a while to trust myself and my instincts, and yet here I am, three years later, blogging about astrology and building my practice.
I wouldn’t say I lacked the self-confidence to become an astrologer. I’m confident about my skills and what I’m capable of doing; and I have always taken the attitude of “let’s give it a shot and if it doesn’t work out then it doesn’t work out,” with everything from remodeling my kitchen to cooking to jobs.
What I do think I lacked was a deep sense of trust in myself. Trust and self-confidence are two different attitudes. Self-confidence is trusting in one’s own abilities. Trusting in oneself goes deeper than one’s abilities. It has to do with character and with recognizing a certain right or authority within yourself. Trust is about responding to a calling that comes from deep inside.
This month’s new moon occurs on November 16 at 24 degrees of Scorpio. The sign of Scorpio is generally about experiencing strong emotions; preserving oneself through the shedding of exterior trappings; and connecting on a level that requires a deep sense of trust. The new moon is about beginnings and setting intentions that we’d like to see take root and blossom over the coming month. Taken together, this month is the right time to begin developing trust, uncovering our authentic selves, and revealing our inner resources.
Getting in touch with our inner sevles and developing that deep sense of trust is never easy. And this month is no exception. The new moon (that is, the sun and moon) will be challenged by Neptune, at 23 degrees of Aquarius. Both Scorpio and Aquarius are considered “fixed” signs; their energies are concentrated and not easily influenced or diluted. Neptune in Aquarius is about merging with the collective. Our challenge this month will be to avoid acting like a martyr or sacrificing (Neptune) what we know to be true in order to fit in (Aquarius). The square between these two fixed signs also stresses the need to look for ways to accomodate both the needs of others and our own needs, otherwise a stalemate could result.
Fortunately the new moon is also making a harmonious aspect to the planet Uranus at 22 degrees of Pisces. Uranus is the trickster, the breaker of structures and rules, and the awakener. As we trust ourselves and follow our own truth we’ll be a magnet for others who are also living authentically. Others will notice something different about us as we seemingly light up a room.
I’m thrilled to be able to study astrology as well as write about it and share it with my clients. Learning to trust myself is a journey that will continue to open up new vistas and bring more rewards. How much do you trust yourself?
