“Just wondering why I havent found the one yet? I seem to fall for ones that are always attached. Does that have something to do with my Saturn placement?” -Debbie
Thanks for writing in, Debbie. As I’ve mentioned before in this column, relationships and compatability are tricky things. Each of us is more than just a natal chart. We’re expressions of our genetics, environment, upbringing…not to mention the result of our conscious (and unconscious) choices. However, astrology is useful because it can help us understand ourselves better. And when we understand ourselves better we’re able to make better choices.
Debbie’s Astrology
Let’s look at some aspects of Debbie’s astrological chart (natal-chart.pdf) to see if we can get a sense of who she is and how she operates. Debbie has five planets in air signs and five planets in mutable signs. Air is a symbol for the mind, thoughts, and ideas. With a preponderance of air in the chart we can say that Debbie is a thinker- but maybe too much so. There’s a rule in cooking that too much is like not enough- and the same holds true for thinking. That combined with a lot of mutable energy could describe someone who is easily influenced, apt to change her mind often, and unsure of her decisions.
Debbie has the Sun in Pisces. Pisces, in general, loves to be in love. The idea of being swept up into an all consuming relationship makes their toes curl. Pisces is influenced by the planet Neptune, who function is to melt, dissolve, and transcend. With Scorpio rising and a Venus-Pluto trine I would suspect that men are drawn to her. Debbie also has her Sun square to Uranus- she speaks her mind, has an off-beat sense of humor, and can be very magnetic.
This isn’t to take the responsibility off of Debbie, but for someone who loves to be in love, is easily persuaded, and often goes after things she may later regret (Mars opposed the Moon) we can see how she could get swept up by any Tom, Dick, or Harry that comes along. Remember, Debbie, that just because we have an opportunity doesn’t mean we always have to take it (or jump on it).
Debbie has Scorpio rising and Taurus on the decendent. To her relationships represent security- both emotionally and materially. The tricky think about our decendent is that, while it describes the characteristics we seek in a partner, it’s really a part of ourselves that we need to integrate into our personality. With Taurus on Debbie’s decendent she might want to be more practical, financially stable, and productive; and then she’ll probably attract better partners.
Debbie mentions her Saturn placement. Debbie has Saturn conjunct Jupiter in Libra in the 11th house. The 11th house is how we receive love. With Satun and Jupiter paired up I would expect there to be a nice balance between structure and openness there. It’s not so much her Saturn placement causing her concern as it might be the aspect between Saturn-Jupiter and the Sun-Mars in Pisces. That particular aspect (called an inconjunct) is one that describes the need for ajustment. Could it be at times Debbie loses all restraint and at other times enforces her boundaries too strictly?
My advice to you, Debbie (who is 28, by the way), is that in two years, after you have your Saturn return, you’ll probably view the relationships in your life differently. The Saturn return is a time in our lives when we finish maturing, begin building a foundation for ourselves, and enforce some structure into our lives. You certainly have the potential to find a healthy, nurturing, and stable relationship. Be patient with your feelings, wise with your choices, and true to yourself. I wish you much happiness. Namaste’
