“I would like to know about moving out of state. My friend lives in another state and I want to know if I will move there with him.”
Jill (not her real name) writes in to ask about a possible move to another state. She doesn’t provide us with any other details around this move so let’s look at the astrology from a general point of view. Jill’s chart is below and you can download a PDF copy here: Jill’s Chart (inner wheel is natal, outer wheel is progressed).
Keep in mind that astrology is good at describing conditions and timing- not outcomes. Whether Jill moves is totally up to her, and astrology can only suggest whether the conditions are favoring a move or not.
We see that Jill has her Sun in Cancer, so having a secure, comfortable space to call home is important to her. The Moon, ruler of the sign of Cancer, is found in Virgo. She most likely keeps a very spare, clean home at that! However, we also see the planet Uranus buddied up next to her Sun. This gives me the sense that Jill might not be our “typical” motherly Cancer, for Uranus adds a unorthodox and independent streak to whatever it mixes with.
When we look at Jill’s natal fourth house, the house of “home,” we find Sagittarius – a fire sign that likes to roam and explore. As a matter of fact her chart angles (that is, the edges of the first, fourth, seventh, and tenth houses) are all mutable signs, suggesting there is a pliability and movement to her life in general.
Let’s turn our attention to some of the current transits and progressions affecting Jill’s chart. Last year Jill had her second Saturn return. This is the time in our lives when Saturn returns to the same sign and degree it was at when we were born, about every 28-29 years. It can be a sobering time when we look back over the structures we’ve created in our life and what we must do in the next phase to further support ourselves (physically, emotionally, and materially). This can be a time when we change facets of our life that are no longer serving us.
Jill’s progressed Moon has just entered the first quarter phase. This is a time of activity, growth, and taking risks. Whatever plans she made or intentions she set back in 2002 (give or take a few months on either side) when the progressed moon was in its new phase are now requiring that she take direct action if she wants them to come to fruition.
In April 2009 transiting Uranus will be opposing her natal Moon. This suggests she’ll need to make a decision to change (Uranus) residence (Moon). Perhaps because of a change in her relationship (Uranus moving through her 7th house of relationships) she’s ready to redefine how she’s viewed by society. Making a move to begin this new chapter of her life could be one way of doing this.
I see the decision to move happening in the springtime and over the summer there is activity around making plans. In the fall, when retrograding Uranus again contacts her Moon and transiting Pluto and Saturn make some tough aspects to her natal Sun, is the most likely time for the move. This describes a challenging period when Jill be be forced to re-establish herself, establish new routines, and network with new groups of people- the kinds of activities one would expect when moving to a new place. In November her progressed Moon moves into the 4th house- a time that puts the focus on home and hearth.
Jill, I wish you much luck this year and keep us posted as to what happens!
Postscript January 30, 2009: I received an email from Jill this afternoon and it reads:
Hi RonThank you so much for the info. You are correct on everything you said about me. I will keep in touch and let you know what happens. Again Thanks.
